Linking to an Internal Article PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 December 2009 18:29

One day, you're happily writing articles on your Joomla site when you suddenly experience an urgent need to link.  When linking to an external website, that's no problem.  All the WYSIWYG editors for Joomla include an icon for a simple URL link.   And, as an old hand at html, you could probably code an href tag in your sleep.  Linking becomes more complicated, however, when linking to articles on your own Joomla site.

If an article is linked to a menu or on a page linked to a menu, you might be able to find the URL with only a small amount of inconvenience.  But what if the page isn't linked to any menu? What if you don't want to link the page to a menu?

To make my life easier when dealing with this particular issue, I usually install one of two tools on each Joomla site: (1) the Joomla Content Editor (JCE) or  (2)  for sites where a different editor is used,  Linkr.

Want to learn more?  Here's a quick video to explain how to do this.

Quick Glance

Joomla! is a powerful core framework that speeds developing a website and creating functionality, but the real secret to Joomla’s power lies in the wealth of extensions (plugins) available to add capabilities and functions. Many of these extensions use a GPL license like Joomla! (free), while some are commercial (require payment).

There are currently over 2200 extensions listed at http://extensions.joomla.org. They include such functionality as dynamic form builders, directory services, document management, image and multimedia galleries, e-commerce and shopping cart engines, forums and chat software, calendars, blogging software, newsletters systems, subscription services, community sites, and many, many more.
